Criticism of an official at the Prison and Probation Service, Skenäs Prison, for his behaviour in relation to an inmate attending a main hearing

An inmate participated in a trial via video link from the prison. Also present in the room was a prison officer who instructed the detainee on what to say during the hearing.

The Parliamentary Ombudsman states that such a procedure is clearly outside the remit of the Prison and Probation Service. She stresses that it was particularly worrying that the hearing took place via video link, as it can be difficult for the presiding judge to exercise their responsibility for the keeping order in such a space.

The Prison and Probation Service is criticised for its actions.
